Transitioning to Healthy Snacks!

Dear Barton Hill families,

In order to boost student health and academic performance we will be transitioning our school to healthy snacks. We ask that you help us by sending your students to school with nutrient-dense snacks such as diced apples, carrot sticks, and whole-grain crackers; instead of cookies, chips, or sodas. For a complete list of district approved snacks please click the following link: Healthy Snack List

School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support

Our school has implemented the research-based Second Step program which integrates social-emotional learning into all classrooms. The program is designed to teach children how to understand and manage their emotions, control their reactions, be aware of others’ feelings, and have the skills to problem-solve and make responsible decisions. Please ask your child about the Second Step program and encourage s/he to discuss what is being taught.

PSA/Attendance Coordinator

Every month Barton Hill recognizes one class per grade with the best attendance. Students reaching the goal of 7 or less absences (“96% Attendance Club”) will be recognized with a special end-of-the-year awards assembly with medallion necklaces. Students with “Perfect Attendance” (zero absences, zero tardies) will receive a trophy. Remember to attend school every day and on time.

Cellular Telephones

Cellular Telephones

It is the policy of the Los Angles Unified School District (LAUSD) to prohibit the use of cellular phones or any electronic device by students on campus during normal school hours. Students are permitted to possess cellular phones, pagers, or electronic signaling devices on campus provided that any such device shall remain "off" and stored in a locker, backpack, purse, pocket, or other place where it is not visible during normal school hours. Students are permitted to use cellular phones, pagers, or electronic signaling devices on campus before and after school or during school activities that occur outside of school hours. Students must comply anytime a request is made by school personnel to cease the use of a cellular telephone, pager or other signaling device even before or after school. Schools may adopt more stringent cellular policies through the School Site Council. Cell phone use on the school bus is for emergency purposes only; driver authorization is required.  Barton Hill Elementary School is not responsible for lost or stolen cellular telephones or other personal items of value such as: iPods, cameras, electronic games, radios, CD players, computers, etc.
