Transitioning to Healthy Snacks!

Dear Barton Hill families,

In order to boost student health and academic performance we will be transitioning our school to healthy snacks. We ask that you help us by sending your students to school with nutrient-dense snacks such as diced apples, carrot sticks, and whole-grain crackers; instead of cookies, chips, or sodas. For a complete list of district approved snacks please click the following link: Healthy Snack List

Message from the Principal

I am so proud of the accomplishments we have made so far this year!! Can you believe that it is already May? This means that your child (in grades 3rd-6th) is in the process of or is about to begin the Smarter Balanced Testing. Please remember to have your child get plenty of sleep and nutritious meals prior to his/her testing week.

April was a BUSY month! We had a very successful Family Science Night and I would like to thank all the parents that took the time to show interest in their child's education. These family fun nights are planned and run by our teachers. They did another outstanding job hosting this successful event. We just had our Open House this week. I'm sure you were just as impressed as I was to see how welcoming all the classrooms were. It was great to see all the wonderful displays of student work. We also just had a successful Coffee with the Principal. Thank you to all of the parents who joined on Thursday, April 27th, 2017.

Lastly, I want to extend a warm welcome from Barton Hill Family, to Ms. Melissa Heckman. Ms. Heckman is the School Improvement Grant, (SIG), Administrator and will be overseeing all components relating to SIG. When you are on campus, please introduce yourself and greet her with a warm smile.

Cellular Telephones

Cellular Telephones

It is the policy of the Los Angles Unified School District (LAUSD) to prohibit the use of cellular phones or any electronic device by students on campus during normal school hours. Students are permitted to possess cellular phones, pagers, or electronic signaling devices on campus provided that any such device shall remain "off" and stored in a locker, backpack, purse, pocket, or other place where it is not visible during normal school hours. Students are permitted to use cellular phones, pagers, or electronic signaling devices on campus before and after school or during school activities that occur outside of school hours. Students must comply anytime a request is made by school personnel to cease the use of a cellular telephone, pager or other signaling device even before or after school. Schools may adopt more stringent cellular policies through the School Site Council. Cell phone use on the school bus is for emergency purposes only; driver authorization is required.  Barton Hill Elementary School is not responsible for lost or stolen cellular telephones or other personal items of value such as: iPods, cameras, electronic games, radios, CD players, computers, etc.
